4" x 6" postcard, edition of 1000
An informal inventory of Toronto-area Home Depot superstores that were also homes to local birds, complete with street addresses and public transit directions. Postcards were distributed at art galleries, information booths and recreation centers in the downtown area. The DIY birdguide re-contextualizes the commercialized experience of visiting a Home Depot by drawing attention to the presence of its unintended, though natural, inhabitants. The postcard was produced following the 2002 eviction of Toronto's Tent City, a community of homeless living on waterfront property owned Home Depot from until September 2002.
